Cottons Place in the Consumer Universe

Cotton is the most used natural fiber in the world today. However, the natural fiber of choice for many textile producers and consumers, cotton faces increased competition from synthetics and an increasingly crowded consumer market where electronic gadgets often compete directly with apparel and home textiles for consumer dollars. How does cotton best compete in such a market? And if cotton has challenges, what does this mean for other natural fibers such as wool and alpaca?
