Spinning With a Supported Spindle for Beginners

A supported spindle differs from a drop spindle, as it is not suspended as it twirls, it rests on a surface. As there is no weight to carry as it spins, a very fine yarn can be spun. It is a good tool for spinning short fibers such as cotton or yak, but it is not limited to that. We will have several types of supported spindles to try in class. Please bring a small bowl or dish with a smooth surface to use as a spinning bowl. Spindles and fiber will be provided for use in class. If you have your own spindle, please bring it. You may also bring fiber you want to try. It does not have to be short fiber. Any kind can be spun on a supported spindle.
