A SpinOff is an easy way to compete – mail in just a 2-4 ounce sample of fleece (which leaves enough of the blanket to be entered in more shows). An experienced judge will spin a small skein and evaluate it according fineness, handle, ease of preparation, and other desirable characteristics, giving you valuable feedback. Plus, your alpaca’s fleece and your farm name will be viewed by thousands of visitors to Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival.
Fleeces from both 2016 and 2017 shearings are eligible; there is no limit on the number of entries from one farm. Since we want to be inclusive, you don't have to be an AOA or AAWO member.
We have $100 cash awards for Judge’s Choice in both suri and huacaya, plus suris and huacayas over 10. Youth (18 and under) and 4-H members qualify for a reduced entry fee and more cash prizes.
So check out your fleeces – those stored from last year and those still on your animals – and get them ready to send. Our deadline is June 28th – we’re looking forward to seeing all your wonderful fiber.

Breeding for an End in Mind-Genetic Gain, Color, Product
Interested in advancing your herd quality and furthering your knowledge of fleece, color genetics and breeding selection factors? Join America’s Natural Fiberworks, Blessed Criations and KB Alpacas from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to discuss “Breeding for an End in Mind”.
This seminar is ideal for all alpaca breeders striving to advance their herd quality (fleece, color, and phenotype). You’ll learn about fleece characteristics and how those characteristics influence the end products such as yarn. We will also discuss getting the colors you desire and will introduce a process to objectively evaluate animals. We will conclude by putting our discussion to application with a breeding selection exercise. Attendees will leave with an advanced understanding of how to breed for an end in mind-genetic advancement.
Cost: $40 per person, $75 for two or more from the same farm. Continental breakfast and lunch are included.
