Exciting Weekend from the Road

This weekend in Oklahoma for the A-OK Blastoff has been wonderful!

Yesterday, Patty Hasselbring and I were able to present a plaque to Leslie Rebtoy from Healing Springs Suris for registering the FIRST cria with embryo transfer. Leslie has registered the first two alpacas by embryo transfer. Leslie worked with Jude Anderson of Pucara Ranch on the transfer. You will recall in 2016, the membership voted to allow alpacas registered by artificial insemination and embryo transfer beginning in 2017. This is an exciting advancement for the industry and we look forward to advancing the registry through embryo transfer.

Last night Alpacas of Oklahoma hosted their annual banquet following the show and recognized the long-time member, Steve Hull, PhD. Steve has served on many boards for the alpaca industry over 20 years and has served as a mentor to many owners and breeders. I was honored to be a part of the recognition of Steve as a Board Member of AOA.

This weekend has been a special reunion of sorts for my family. My wife Nikki and our youngest daughter Chloe came back to Oklahoma with me for the show. Last year, soon after signing my contract with AOA, we drove to Oklahoma for their annual show. The year has been quite amazing getting to know alpaca owners and breeders across the country. We, as a family, appreciate the welcome by the wonderful alpaca owners and breeders wherever we have traveled. Through the process, several of the Board members told me I would make great connections and friends in this industry. Today, a year later, I can tell you they were right. We appreciate your support and warm welcome and are looking forward to many years to come.

The fall show season is wrapping up and I will be in Richmond, Virginia, next weekend for the VAOBA show. Keep following our blog over the coming weeks for exciting announcements about member renewals and other great opportunities for our members. Also in the coming days, we will be announcing the room reservation link for Peoria.

Thank you for everything you do for the Alpaca Industry!
