I cannot believe it’s already time for the show season to begin. It seems to me that just a few weeks ago I was preparing to travel to Dallas/Ft. Worth for my first "solo show" as your Executive Director. Now here I am, one year later, getting ready again to leave tomorrow to travel the country attending shows and meeting our members. If you would like to learn more about the shows, when and where they are happening, click the link to our AOA Show Page: http://www.alpacainfo.com/show.

The past year was enjoyable being on the road and meeting our members. By attending the shows and listening to you all, we were able to implement some new processes to provide greater service to you, our members! The first major item people talked with me during the last year was office availability on Fridays during the show season. You asked, and we responded by having Friday office hours during show season. We are now available to you as you travel and check into the shows. Secondly, members talked a lot about certificates and emailing certificates. At the beginning of 2018, with Board of Directors approval, we implemented the process of emailing a color, show ready certificate to all members at the Association level and above. I appreciate you sharing your ideas on how we can better serve our members. You are the lifeblood of this industry.
We are off to a wonderful start in 2018. Membership renewals have been strong, if you haven't already joined, please consider joining today. We have been humbled at the office with the amazing number of people who have purchased marketing and benefactor packages thus far. The response has been tremendous. Also, the advertising sales for Alpacas Magazine have been strong. If you are interested in purchasing a magazine advertising package, click here. As we are preparing for the National Show in Peoria, we are expecting a wonderful turnout. This will be a Level V show and we are already above last year’s entries for walking fleece as well as nearly a record number of sponsors. To sign up to participate in the National Show, click here. The early bird pricing deadline has been extended to close of business on Monday, February 12 as a thank you for being such great members. We can't wait to see you in Peoria. We appreciate Nancy Billington and Kimberly Les from Fun in the Country Alpacas for being our presenting sponsor. They, along with all our other sponsors are going to make this the elite show of the year. Some have contacted the office and asked how they could support the National Show, and I have been encouraging people to consider sponsoring a halter class, a breeder's cup, or one of the national supreme champions. Your support of these would go a long way for your national association. Click here for more information.
Registration of alpacas is off to a strong start in 2018. Remember, your Board of Directors has changed the time period of transfers for increased fees from 90 days to 180 days. Additionally, the Board has granted a "registration holiday" for registering alpacas over one year of age. The "registration holiday" lasts until March 31st. If you have alpacas over age one that you wish you had registered, now is the time!!
We are excited at the National Headquarters for the prospects of 2018. Thank you for your continued support of AOA and the Alpaca Industry!!
Bud Synhorst, Executive Director
