The 2021 EPD Calculation is Complete

The 2021 Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) calculation is now available online. EPDs set AOA registered alpacas apart from others around the world, providing information that helps AOA members make breeding and buying decisions that support rapid and effective genetic gain!

Trait data received by October 2021 has been included in this calculation. This year’s analysis included observations for at least one trait on 41,774 Huacaya and 9,284 Suri animals. This translates to 81,423 huacayas and 17,679 suris for a total of 99,102 alpacas with EPDs. Included this year’s analysis is that an inbreeding coefficient was also calculated for all animals in the registry for 277,973 total alpacas.

Read the 2021 Producer Report by Dr. Enns for more information on this calculation. Be sure to download and archive your EPD report for 2021 (previous EPD calculations are not archived).

Alpacas that have had no trait data submitted, but are related to alpacas with data, may have EPDs recorded. EPDs are calculated up to four generations back from an alpaca with submitted data.

Fiber testing can be done year-round, so now is the perfect time to submit your fleece samples that didn't make it in the 2021 calculation!

The Shear Report Instructions page provides the steps for submitting samples for testing. User entered traits — birth weight, weaning weight, birthing ease, and fleece weight — can be entered on each alpacas trait data page.
