Dear AOA Members, We are writing to address an important development in laboratory testing services that affects the alpaca community. Neogen Laboratories has announced they will discontinue their color coat testing service effective May 31, 2025. We want to assure our members that DDC Veterinary, our official laboratory partner since 2010, continues to provide all other essential testing services, including:
The discontinuation of Neogen's service specifically impacts color coat testing, which has been utilized by both AOA members and non-members. This is currently the only test not offered by our laboratory partner. Your Board of Directors is actively working with DDC to explore the possibility of adding color coat testing to their services. These discussions are part of a broader conversation about establishing a comprehensive testing center that would allow the global alpaca community to obtain all necessary testing from a single blood sample. This would create a more efficient and streamlined process for everyone in the industry. While these discussions are promising, and we are hopeful, we cannot make any commitments at this time. We are engaged in conversations with alpaca associations and registries worldwide to ensure any solution meets the needs of the broader alpaca community. We will continue to keep you informed as we gather more definitive information about future color coat testing arrangements. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any immediate concerns, please don't hesitate to contact the AOA office. Sincerely, | |||
