Call for Mill-Spun Skeins of Alpaca

2021 AOA National Fleece Show

The Mill-Spun Skein compeition is an opportunity for farms to showcase their mill-spun fiber, and for mills to showcase their skill in working with alpaca fiber.

There are two categories in the Mill-Spun Skein compeition:

  1. Mill Skeins: Mill enters skeins demonstrating their best work
  2. Farm Skeins: Individual farm enters skeins showing the quality of yarn from their fiber

The classes for yarn include:

  • Finer Yarns: 100% alpaca
    1. Knitting Superfine/Fine Yarn (Sock, Fingering, Baby, Sport)
    2. Weaving 1200 yds/#
  • Light Medium Yarns 100% alpacas
    1. Knitting (DK, Light, Worsted, Afgahan, Aran)
    2. Weaving 850 yards/#
  • Bulky Yarns 100% alpacas
    1. Knitting Bulky/Super Bulky (Chunky, Craft, Rug, Bulky)
    2. Weaving less than 850 yards/#
  • Novelty yarn: Boucles, Thick and Thin, Beaded, etc. Well-constructed, and comprised of at least 50% alpaca

Entries must be submitted in the name of the mill or farm depending on category. Each entry is $30, and each skein must be 100 yards in length. Deadline to enter is June 21, 2021.

That’s IT! You don’t have to be a member to participate, you just need to show your artistry with 50% alpaca! If you are not an AOA member, you may enter using the Mill-Spun Skeins Entry Form and Tags.

Pam EllenbergerAll entries will be judged by Pam Ellenberger of Bent Limb Farm. Pam joins us from Pennsylvania and runs an active, diverse, multi-species farm of fiber- and meat-producing animals. Pam brings a wealth of knowledge regarding fiber, fiber processing, fiber production, and product construction and she is an all-round wonderful teacher in all these areas!
