Introducing…National High Point Fleece Awards

After the success of the National High Point Halter Awards launch, AOA is pleased to expand this competition to include fleece! Beginning now, farms can begin accruing points for fleece, walking fleece, and the Innovative Fleece Assessment (IFA) Shows.

The show season is June 1 through May 31. Points reset on June 1 of each year.

The inspiration that guided the task force, which recommended the Board add fleece to the points system this year, was greater energy leads to greater enthusiasm, which leads to increased participation, ultimately leading to more people wanting to be a part of our industry, which leads to sales. Taking it a step further, they asked, What is the aspiration of a Show Point System? The answer: To be recognized as a truly accomplished fleece breeder.

Do you want to get a head start on collecting fleece points? The AOA National Fleece Show (the first fleece show of the season) features double points! Registration for this show ends on June 30, so be sure to get your entries in and secure your opportunity to begin the fleece season with a bang!

Accruing points for fleece at all AOA certified fleece shows:

• 1st through 3rd places receive points for Fleece classes
• Fleece points are based on the number of exhibitors bested — this takes class size into consideration
• Production Classes accrue points in the same fashion
  • Get of Sire — the sire and exhibitor receive the points
  • Produce of Dam — the dam and exhibitor receive the points
• Champion placements accrue 10 additional points
• Reserve Champion placements accrue 8 additional points
• Special Awards (Spirit of the Fiber Industry, Best Hand, Best Luster, Best Lock, Best Crimp, Best Brightness, Best Prepared, Most Uniform (IFA), Longevity (IFA)) placements accrue 7 additional points
• Judge's Choice placements accrue 12 additional points
