News From the AOA Show System

The 2025 AOA Show Season is underway, and we're delighted to welcome so many new participants! To support both new and seasoned exhibitors, we will be releasing educational content throughout the spring that covers key aspects of the 2025 AOA Show System Handbook.

Today's topic focuses on the rules regarding modifications and preparation of alpacas and their fleece in the show ring for both huacayas and suris. Please carefully review pages 16 and 17 in the handbook, as it's crucial that all exhibitors are familiar with them before attending a show. Access the 2025 Show System Handbook online.

Test your knowledge!

  1. Is cutting, trimming, blocking, tipping, plucking, singeing an alpaca’s fleece (blanket and neck) allowable?
  2. Can an exhibitor even the length of a fleece?
  3. Can the head, legs, and tail be trimmed?
  4. Are shampoos, conditioners, luster enhancers, silicone based products, dyes, color dressings, oil dressings and other enhancing agents allowable?
  5. Is twisting, curling, or other altering/enhancing practices that alter the fleece/lock structure allowable?

If you cannot answer these questions, refer back to pages 16 and 17 in the handbook.
