Viper will be starting his breeding career at NorthCoast in the fall of 2017. He is truely a product of his genetics. We bred our top producing female, NorthCoast Mercury's Meribella to Ventura based on their outstanding fleece characteristics. Meribella had a show stopping fleece as a young female out of RAL Titan's Mercury Rising and NorthCoast Pacifico's Isabella... it was a Suri type fleece with long, thick, bright locks which laid flat like a Suri a style known as a "silky". Her fleece was so astounding that we bought her sire right after she was born. Viper's sire, Ventura, was given the highest recommendation by his owner, Larry Johnson, as his best fleece producing male and he certainly proved correct with this young male.
Viper is a smaller male with excellent conformation and curb appeal. A terific looking male with the entire package when evaluating his fleece. Unlike many alpacas at the high end, he has very good staple length along with high frequency crimp with micro bundling, brightness, excellent density and uniformity across the blanket and into the extremities.
Our greatest challenge with him in his younger days was his fleece picking up junk and getting trashed. We were disappointed when his fleece was too matted and debris-filled to show for his juvenile and yearling show seasons.
His fleece at over 2.5 years has all the characteristics we are breeding for. He has a small black spot on the inside of his left front leg so believe he may carry black genetics but we wont know until we have a number of his cria on the ground.
We will offer limited outside breedings to Viper in the fall of 2017 once he has provide as a breeder. I strongly recommend this male and believe he can improve on most any colored or even white alpaca.
