Laurel Shouvlin Selected for the
James G. King Industry Award
This award, created in 2012, was named in honor of Jim King, a longtime member and Board Member of both the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (AOBA) and Alpaca Registry, Inc. (ARI) who passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2012. The James G. King Industry Recognition Award is awarded by the Alpaca Owners Association, Inc. (AOA) Board of Directors to a person who has given of themselves exceptionally and consistently toward the betterment of the alpaca industry.
 We're thrilled to announce Laurel Shouvlin as the recipient of the James G. King Industry Award! For 27 years, Laurel and her husband Tim have raised alpacas at Bluebird Hills Farm in Springfield, Ohio. Laurel's fascination with the camel family began in childhood, leading her to master various fiber arts and dive into all aspects of the alpaca industry.
She embarked on her judging journey in 2007 and has since become a certified judge for halter, fleece, and performance competitions. She has evaluated alpacas and fleeces both on the North American continent and internationally.
Laurel has been a driving force in alpaca associations, serving in editorial, directorial, and mentoring roles. Her dedication extends to the youth, as she actively contributes to youth programs.
Despite her busy schedule, Laurel finds time to nurture her family, indulge her passion for singing, and mentor at-risk youth. Her commitment to the alpaca industry and multifaceted service make her an invaluable asset.
