Alpacas captured the hearts of Hardly Farms in 2023 when their four-year-old fell in love with a stuffed alpaca. Now, they own six suri alpacas, three huacaya alpacas, and two babies on the way! In this exclusive interview, Hardly Farms shares insights into how they started their alpaca adventure and what they are planning for the future!
Why Alpacas?
Alpacas are majestic and some of the sweetest animals you will ever meet.
How did you get into the world of alpacas?
Our four-year-old daughter fell in love with an alpaca stuffed animal and we fell down the rabbit hole of alpaca research and touring different farms. We bought them just four months after learning what alpacas were!
Tell us about your farm.
Hardly Farm was established in 2023 and we have six suri alpacas, three huacaya alpacas, two babies on the way, and a llama coming very soon! We offer farm tours, field trips, photography, craft classes, and so much more! We've also recently started the show process!
What do you do with your animal's fiber?
Our first shearing with our animals will take place in April 2024. We will likely partner with a mill to send some of it off. We hope to process some of it in-house as well!
What is one of your most memorable moments with your alpacas?
When I am sitting in the middle of the pasture with all the animals grazing around me and listening to their little hums and munching.
