Halter Show Point Program

for Alpaca Owners Association (AOA) Certified Shows

2022 Alpaca Winners  2022 Farm Winners

General Overview

Both exhibitors and alpacas earn points on their placements at AOA Certified Halter Shows using the same method. The AOA database is the official Book of Record for tracking points.

The show season is June 1 through May 31. Points reset on June 1 of each year.

The annual award ceremony will take place during the AOA National Fleece Show.

Exhibitor Overview

The Exhibitor is the individual who enters the alpaca into a show.

Exhibitors are divided into small, medium, or large farm categories. The number of females less than 15 years of age and registered as breeders in the AOA database to the exhibitor determines the farm size.

For exhibitors that show both Suri and Huacaya alpacas, the points for their exhibitor designation will be determined based on the breed of the alpaca that won the points (e.g., points won for a huacaya entry will not be considered for a suri award).

Points are tallied by the exhibitor name in the AOA database.

Breaking Ties

If a tie for First Place occurs, AOA shall review the placements from the shows for the Show Points period in question. Whoever has the most Judge’s Choice awards during the Show Points period in question wins the tie. If no Farm/Ranch has a Judge’s Choice, then AOA will see who has the most Color Championships. AOA will utilize the following order to break ties: Judge’s Choice, Color Champion, Reserve Champion, First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Fourth Place, Fifth Place, Sixth Place.

If a tie for Second Place thru Tenth Place occurs, AOA will award multiple placements for that placement but will not award for the next placement position. For example: There are two Farm/Ranches that are tied for Second Place. AOA will award two Second Place awards but will not award a Third Place award. The next available award will be for Fourth Place.
